Geo Technologies

After exploring Geo Technologies (GPS, GIS, Google Earth & Maps, etc.) Games, Simulations & Virtual Reality in class and participating in a GPS Scavenger Hunt, reflect specifically on how you might use at least two emerging technologies in your future classroom.

I would definitely use games in the classroom. The games that we used in class are the perfect age level for kindergartner's. I would also use Google Earth and maps. The maps would help students visualize the local area where they live. I would also show maps of the world to the students. I do not think that GPS would be beneficial to the kindergarten level.

Tell us the level of students with whom you plan on teaching as well as the content area. Then, describe the benchmark and/or grade level indicators you were working with on the Newsletter assignment. Finally, reflect on how your newsletter activity represents a learner-centered activity where your future students would be able to construct meaning regarding the benchmark or grade level indicators through the use of word processing.

I wrote my newletter for the grade level of K-1. The content area that I was working with was health. The grade level I intend to teach is kindergarten. This assignment helped me to see the different ways that I could intoduce not only healthy living and eating but also the use of computers in my classroom. At the kindergarten level children are fairly limited to what they can do on a computer. I would be able to incorporate the different foods and food groups into a fun activity using a word program that had the students match the food to the food groups or lining up the correct number of food servings per day to the food group.
