Database and Speadsheet Use in the Classroom

Reflect on why students should use Databases and Spreadsheets in the classroom. In doing so, focus on your content area and the specific advantages and disadvantages of integrating this software in your future classroom.

I believe that students could use spreadsheets and databases as a tool to separate similar information so that it is easier to understand. For instance, if you were to teach a lesson on astronomy you could set up a database that showed the planets sizes, atmosphere's, distance from the sun, surface temperatures, etc. This would be very helpful way to separate the information in an easy understandable way. You could also make a plot graph to show a visual comparison of the different information in the database. For example, if you used the astronomy database you could make a plot that compared the distances from the sun or the surface temperatures of each planet.

Stephanie,

I see you have two different posts on DBs & SSs - I read both, but I will only comment here.

As you note, both software programs would allow you to present information in a easily understood fashion. - CB
